Dr. Dale Bower Named Associate Vice Chancellor For Academic Affairs

MONTICELLO, AR — Dr. Dale Bower, associate dean for extended learning services at Central Community College in Hastings, Neb., has been named associate vice chancellor for academic affairs at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

            Bower’s appointment was announced today by Dr. Jimmie Yeiser, UAM’s provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.

            “Dr. Bower brings a wealth of experience to her position,” said Yeiser. “She has worked in a number of different academic settings, including both two- and four-year campuses. I believe that experience will be a major asset to this office as we move forward to meet the challenges of maintaining academic excellence at this institution.”

            As associate vice chancellor, Bower will work with UAM’s concurrent enrollment program in area high schools, exiting program assessment and new program development, strategic planning, and student advising, retention and success.
            Bower holds three degrees from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse – a bachelor of science degree in Spanish and speech education, a master of science degree in reading education curriculum and instruction, and an M.S. in special education psychology. She holds an Ed.S. in industrial and vocational education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, a Ph.D. in educational administration and adult education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and has completed postdoctoral studies in instruction design at the University of Wisconsin-Stout and instructional technology studies at the University of South Florida-Tampa.

            Prior to her stint at Central Community College, Bower served as postsecondary academic officer for policy oversight for the Idaho Office of the State Board of Education from 2008-10. From 2004-07, she was assistant vice president and assistant professor at Clayton State University, a part of the University System of Georgia.

            She also served as dean of the Center for Continuing Education at William Paterson University (2001-04), chief executive officer and regional provost of the University Center, an experimental consortium of colleges housed at the University of Minnesota-Rochester (1997-99), vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York-Canton (1994-97), and assistant vice chancellor at Wisconsin-Stout (1982-94).
