MONTICELLO, AR — Soprano Christie Conover, the National Federation of Music Clubs’ 2015 Young Artist Winner, will present a solo performance September 17 at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Conover’s performance is being sponsored by the Southeast Arkansas Concert Association, the Monticello Music Club, the Pine Bluff Music Coterie and the UAM Division of Music.
Admission is free.
Conover is making her professional international debut in 2015-16 as Pamina in Die Zauberflote as part of the Komische Opera Berlin on its tour of China. She first appeared in this production with the Minnesota Opera. Conover will also appear this season with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra at the Colorado Music Festival in Boulder, as soprano soloist for Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Billings Symphony, two chamber opera appearances with the Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra, and other concerts sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs.
Conover holds a master’s of music degree from the University of Colorado and a bachelor of music degree in vocal performance from San Jose State University, where she studied with famed soprano Erie Mills. Conover represented her home state of Montana as a contestant in the 2007 Miss America Pageant.
Conover will be accompanied by pianist Naoki Hakutani, assistant professor of piano at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Hakutani is director of UALR Artspree and the UALR Piano Festival.
