Dr. Robert Weih
Earns Designation As Certified Geographic Information Systems Professional
(9/17/08)
MONTICELLO, AR — Dr. Robert Weih, professor of forestry and
director of the spatial information systems program at the University of
Arkansas at Monticello, has received certification as a Geographic
Information Systems Professional (GISP).
The certification was presented by the GIS Certification Institute, which
sets minimum standards for ethical conduct and professional practice.
According to Weih, some states require persons with the GISP for projects
that receive state funds, or in the case of Arkansas, some state GIS
contracts require at least one GISP on the project.
Weih joined the UAM faculty in 1994. He holds a bachelor’s degree from
Northern Arizona University, and master’s degree from the University of
Minnesota, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech.
