MONTICELLO, AR — Nearly 200 nursing faculty and nursing
students from across Arkansas received the latest teaching methods and
strategies in nursing education at a two-day conference hosted September
10-11 by the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
The first Nursing Conference for Nurse Educators and Nursing Students was
sponsored by the UAM Division of Nursing and the area hospitals that serve
as educational training sites for UAM nursing students – Ashley County
Medical Center in Crossett, Bradley County Hospital in Warren, Chicot
Memorial Hospital in Lake Village, and Monticello’s Drew Memorial Hospital.
The conference opened with a presentation by Sylvia Rayfield, founder of
Sylvia Rayfield and Associates, leaders in NCLEX-RN and practical nursing
review courses and nurse faculty development. The first day was dedicated to
nursing faculty with the focus on recent changes in the NCLEX Registered
Nurse and Practical Nurse licensing test plans.
The second day was structured for both students and faculty. Featured
speaker Lorretta Manning’s presentation – “Pharmacology Made Insanely Easy”
– was designed to help nurses understand and remember the many medications
they must safely administer to the public.
UAM Chancellor Jack Lassiter, hosted a reception for nurse educators at his
home September 10.
