MONTICELLO, AR — Julie Gentry, director of intramurals and NCAA compliance coordinator at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, was recently inducted into the University of Michigan Women’s Track and Field Hall of Fame.

Gentry, a member of the UAM professional staff since August 1983, was a member of the first women’s varsity track and field team at Michigan in 1978. A miler and half-miler in college, Gentry and her ’78 teammates were inducted together in a ceremony in Ann Arbor, Michigan on September 6. Gentry was also a member of the UM cross country team.

“It was really an honor to be inducted,” said Gentry. “To go in as a team was a wonderful experience for all of us. Hopefully, we paved the way for future generations of female athletes.”

The Michigan Women’s Track and Field Hall of Fame was created in 1994 to honor the university’s best athletes and coaches.
