UAM College of Technology-McGehee Showcases Adult
Ed Program (10/7/09)
MONTICELLO, AR — UAM College of Technology-McGehee recently showcased its
adult education program during GED Pride Day.
The adult education students were honored with a luncheon where informal
presentations were made by Bob Ware, vice chancellor of the McGehee campus,
and UAM-CTM instructor Dorissa Kaufman.
Ware discussed the history of UAM-CTM’s adult education program while
Kaufman explained how the program assesses each student before developing an
individualized curriculum based on the student’s needs. Kaufman also
spotlighted several students who had made significant academic advancements.
Sharon Cantrell, director of the adult education program, read a
proclamation made by Governor Mike Beebe designating September 21-25 as
Adult Education Pride Week and honored the students with tokens of
appreciation. Some of the students gave presentations on what obtaining the
GED credential means to them, while others chose to write essays on what
they plan to do after they complete their program of study.
The open house was funded in part from a grant issued by the Arkansas
Department of Career Education, Adult Education Division for the UAM CTM
Adult Education Program activities.
