Wilmar Student Receives Drew County Retired Teachers Scholarship (11/2/09)

MONTICELLO, AR — Karla Fuqua of Wilmar, a senior history and social studies major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been selected to receive the Drew County Retired Teachers Scholarship for the 2009-10 academic year.
            
Fuqua is the daughter of Mark and Karen Fuqua of the Green Hill community and is an honor graduate of Drew Central High School. Her areas of historical interest include Africa Great Britain as well as Arkansas and local history. She is currently serving as president of Phi Alpha Theta history honor society.
            
In January, Fuqua will present her major research project – “Anchored Education: A History of Drew Central Schools” – at the Phi Alpha Theta national convention in San Diego, California.
            
The Drew County Retired Teachers Scholarship is presented annually to students who are graduates of either Monticello or Drew Central High School and plan to pursue careers in education.
