UAM College of Technology-McGehee to Offer Health Information Technology Program (5/21/09)

MONTICELLO, AR — The UAM College of Technology-McGehee will begin offering a health information technology (HIT) program beginning with the 2009 fall semester.

The announcement was made recently by Bob Ware, vice chancellor of UAM-CTM.

The program will include a healthcare office skills certificate of proficiency and a health information technology certificate. Courses will be offered during both day and evening hours and may be applied to the associate of applied science in general technology degree.

Ware said the program is being added to respond to a rapidly growing need for trained health information technology professionals. “According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment for medical records and health information technicians is expected to grow much faster than average for all occupations,” said Ware. “Because of new privacy regulations concerning medical information, careers in healthcare technology are among the 20 occupations projected to grow fastest through 2012.”
