UAM Celebrates Centennial History During Graduation Exercises (5/18/09)

Danny G. Adams of Hermitage waves to the crowd after being introduced as the first graduate of the University of Arkansas at Monticello. Adams completed his degree on December 17, 1971, the year Arkansas A&M merged with the University of Arkansas. Adams recently retired after teaching 27 years in the Hermitage school system.

Babin was one of a number of dignitaries invited to take part in a historical retrospective of the university.

Sam Bird is the grandson of the late Ibrey Allen Bird, the first chairman of the board of trustees of what was originally known as the Fourth District Agricultural School. Scott, one of the leaders of the merger between A&M and the University of Arkansas, served on the last A&M board of trustees and the first UAM advisory board.
