Crossett Student Awarded Prestigious Phi Alpha Theta Undergraduate Scholarship (6/25/09)

MONTICELLO, AR — Ladale Collins of Crossett, a senior history major at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, has been awarded the prestigious Graydon A. Tunstall Scholarship by Phi Alpha Theta, the national honor society for college history majors.

The Tunstall Scholarship is presented annually to rising senior members of Phi Alpha Theta who are majoring in modern European history (1815 to the present).

The scholarship recipients are selected from among applicants from 839 Phi Alpha Theta chapters nationwide. The scholarships are awarded based on academic merit and financial need.

Collins is currently serving as president of UAM’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter.

“This is a wonderful award and very much deserved,” said Dr. Trey Berry, dean of the UAM School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. “Ms. Collins is an outstanding student and a very worthy recipient of this honor.”

UAM’s Phi Alpha Theta chapter received National Chapter of the Year distinction in 2008 and the chapter hosted the 2009 Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference in April. Dr. Kyle Day, assistant professor of history, is the chapter’s faculty sponsor.
