Gary Meggs (right), director of bands and head of the jazz program at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, recently performed with the Glenn Miller Orchestra at the Montreal World Jazz Festival. Meggs is taking a sabbatical from his duties at UAM to spend a year touring with the world-renowned jazz ensemble. Meggs, a saxophonist, was selected for the tour after winning an audition in January. Meggs and the Glenn Miller Orchestra played three combined concerts with the Harry James Orchestra for over 10,000 jazz lovers at the Montreal Festival. Meggs will return to UAM in December following a month-long tour in Japan. Pictured with Meggs (from left) are Damian Sanchez, tenor sax for the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Fred Radke, director of the Harry James Orchestra, and Larry O’Brian, director of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
