UAM Sets Freshman Orientation,
Welcome Week Schedule (8/4/09)
MONTICELLO, AR — First-time freshmen and transfer students will be
welcomed to the University of Arkansas at Monticello with a week-long
schedule of events August 23-27 to ease the transition to college life. This
year’s event is centered around UAM’s centennial theme – “Celebrating a
Century of Opportunity.”
The week’s events begin with check-in at the residence halls at 1 p.m. on
Sunday, August 23. Students living on campus will go to their assigned
residence hall, meet the resident director and resident assistant and
receive their room keys.
All new freshmen are required to attend one of two orientation sessions on
Monday, August 24. Freshmen whose last names begin with A through J will
attend the first session at 10 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center. Freshmen with
last names beginning with K through Z will attend the second session at 1
p.m., also in the Fine Arts Center. Orientation for new transfer students is
scheduled for Tuesday, August 25 at 9 a.m.
Part of the orientation sessions will include tips on time management,
academic success, and involvement in extracurricular activities.
An Organization Fair will be held Monday, August 24 from 12 noon to 4:30
p.m. in the John F. Gibson University Center to acquaint new students with
campus organizations, clubs, and fraternities and sororities. Hospitality
tents sponsored by Simmons Bank and Arkansas Superior Federal Credit Union
will serve food while Aramark will sponsor a beverage center in the Patio
Café of the University Center.
Night registration will be held Monday, August 24 beginning at 5 p.m. in
Harris Hall. An open registration for classes will be held August 25
beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Harris Hall. Classes for the fall term begin on
Wednesday, August 26.
