A Collegiate Farm Bureau team from the
University of Arkansas at Monticello defeated four other teams
to win the first Collegiate Farm Bureau Agriculture Olympics
held recently at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Center at
UA-Fayetteville. The UAM team was comprised of Brittany Dees, a
senior from Hermitage, Amy Hughes, a junior from Crossett, Nik
George, a sophomore from Three Rivers, Mich., and Matt O’Whene,
a senior from Three Rivers, Mich. In addition, UAM’s Shelby
Williams, a senior from Monticello, placed fourth in the State
Collegiate Discussion Meet Finals held in conjunction with the
Agriculture Olympics. The Olympics competition was a timed
event that required team members to milk a cow, scoop rice,
crosscut saw a log, pitch horseshoes into a mineral tub, shell
four ears of corn, and move four bales of straw across the
arena. A team from UA-Fayetteville placed second with ASU-Beebe
third. Austin Henderson, a freshman from McGehee, and Shelby
Williams competed on a team from multiple universities. Williams
had earlier won the UAM Discussion Meet championship. Dr. Bob
Stark, faculty advisor for the UAM Collegiate Farm Bureau,
accompanied the students. Participation in the conference was
funded in part through a student activity grant from the CHS
Foundation. CHS is a diversified energy, grains and foods
company committed to providing the essential resources that

and cooperatives, along with thousands of preferred
