Early Childhood Education

The need for trained early childhood caregivers will continue to increase as statewide Child Care and Early Childhood Education programs expand.

Graduates of this program will have the following career opportunities: Director of a private daycare center; Lead teacher or classroom assistant in a private childcare center or nursery school; Classroom assistant in a Head Start or public school preschool classroom; Paraprofessional working with children with special needs; Preparation for continuation of your early childhood education in a four-year institution.

The Early Childhood Education program combines classroom study and lab experience with infants, toddlers and preschoolers.  This helps the student gain an understanding of the social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth and development of young children.

Students will learn the use of materials, supplies, and equipment found in childcare situations through their classroom study and laboratory experiences.

The laboratory experiences are held in the UAM Early Childhood Development Center at McGehee.  The center is licensed and Quality Approved by the Department of Human Services’ Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education.  The facility serves area children aged 6 weeks to 5 years.
