EMT Basic & Paramedic

The Emergency Medical Technology (EMT) program prepares students to perform emergency medical procedures in the pre-hospital setting.  It follows the national standard curriculum set forth by the Department of Transportation.  Students are trained in theory and a variety of technical skills.  Upon successful completion of the program, the student is granted a technical certificate or an Associate of Applied Science Degree (see option 3 below) and is eligible to apply to take the National Registry EMT Examination.  Should qualified applicants exceed the available slots in the program, admission into a particular class will be based on the date of completed application.

We have three options in the EMT Department:

  1. Emergency Medical Technology Basic Technical Certificate
  2. Emergency Medical Technology Paramedic Technical Certificate, courses listed below
  3. Associate of Applied Science in General Technology

Students successfully completing the UAM CTM EMT Basic and Paramedic program will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate affective, cognitive and psychomotor skills for the appropriate practice of emergency medical care.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to rapidly and appropriately provide emergency care at both clinical and emergency sites.
  3. Demonstrate integration of theory, clinical and field content in manners that are appropriate, ethical and legal.
  4. Demonstrate competence to pass the National Registry Exam.

Upon acceptance into the Emergency Medical Technology Program, the student must submit the following:

EMT: Paramedic:

Current CPR
Certification Card

1.  A current CPR  Certification Card (HCP)
2.  P.P.D. Skin Test or Chest X-Ray
