The Fred J. Taylor Library has been a selective depository for U. S. Government Documents since 1956 and Arkansas State Documents since 1980. As a selective Federal Depository Library, we receive many publications issued by agencies of the U.S. Government. These publications, which may include books, maps, posters, pamphlets, and periodicals, contain information on careers, business opportunities, space exploration, health and nutrition, energy, and many other subjects. In accordance with depository regulations, some government publications in the Fred J. Taylor Library's collection are discarded every 5 years in accordance with depository regulations. Selection is made on the basis of the UAM academic community’s instructional and research needs. Because the resources of the library are also available for use by the citizens of the Fourth Congressional District, the information needs of the general public are considered. For publications not available in our document collections, patrons are referred to other libraries in the Fourth Congressional District, the Arkansas State Library, other depository libraries, or to the interlibrary loan service. The Government Document Collections are located on the first floor. However, some of the government publications are cataloged using the Library of Congress Classification System and still others are processed as periodicals.
