THE POMEROY PLANETARIUM

Joe M. Guenter, Director alias Joe Terrestrial

University of Arkansas at Monticello

History: The Pomeroy Planetarium was established in 1975 with a matching grant from the National Science Foundation. The facility is located in the Turner Neal Museum of Natural History on the UAM campus. The Pomeroy Planetarium is named in memory of Mr. L.K. Pomeroy. Mr. Pomeroy was a longtime member of the board of trustees of Arkansas A & M College (predecessor of UAM) and an avid amateur astronomer.
Director: The Director of the Pomeroy Planetarium since its inception has been Joe M. Guenter. He is a member of the Southwest Planetarium Assoc., the Great Plains Planetarium Assoc. and the International Planetarium Soc.
Activities: In addition to providing numerous requested programs for a wide variety of groups and classes from K to Senior Citizens throughout the region, Public Night Programs are presented monthly during the Academic Year. Coupled with the presentations, weather permitting, telescopes are often set out for viewing astronomically interesting objects. All of this is opened to the public without charge as a service provided by UAM and the School of Mathematics & Natural Sciences.
