The University of Arkansas at Monticello School of Computer Information Systems recognized its outstanding students during an awards presentation at the School's annual reception. The reception was held on April 21, 2009, in the Capitol Dining Room at the John F. Gibson University Center.
Honored guests included The Chancellor, Dr. Jack Lassiter; the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Mr. R. David Ray; and the Parents and Friends of CIS Award Nominees.
The School thanks Mrs. William Austin for her continuing scholarship support with the William R. and Katie B. Austin Endowed Scholarship fund for CIS majors, thanks Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hornaday for their continuing scholarship support with the Dan and Charlotte Hornaday Endowed Scholarship fund for CIS majors, and thanks Ms. Cindy Adair, Dr. Debbie Bryant, Ms. Lynn Harris, Ms. Angela Marsh, Mr. and Mrs. James and Glenda Nixon, and Dr. James Roiger for their continuing CIS General Scholarship fund donations.


The School recognized the accomplishments of the CIS programming team, coached by Ms. Lori Selby. The First Place winning team of Freddie Gibson, Michael Howard, and Caleb Satterlee and the Second Place winning team of Calvin Davis Jr., Kyle Knight, and Richard Vaughn were presented certificates of appreciation. The teams won honors in the COBOL programming language competition and won First and Second Place honors in the Computer Information Systems programming competition.

The School recongized the academic achievements of CIS majors during the academic year with Certificates of Appreciation. The majors included Molly Allison, Melissa Atkins, Regina Boston, James Burns, Justin Collins, Curtis Crum, Calvin Davis Jr., Daniel Dunn, Jay Dyson, Amanda Edwards, Derek Ethridge, Jordan Frizzell, Benjamin Faver, Keith Franklin, John Fryer, Kenneth Gage, Brandi Gorum, Justin Green, Nicholas Green, Kristin Harrison, Troy Hill, Lisa Higgins, Michael Howard, Micah Hughes, Kyle Knight, Jonathan Martin, Misty Martin, Phillip McGehee, Randall Mills, Christopher Morrow, Ryan Moseley, Jennifer Nicholson, Jill Pennington, Talisha Polite, Tonya Reynolds, Caleb Satterlee, Ashley Smith, Zachery Somervell, Christopher Tucker, Richard Vaughn, Justin Walker, Frederick Washington, Antonio Williams, Robert Williams, and Brian Wooldridge.

The Hornaday Scholarship Awardee is Kenneth "KC" Gage.

The Austin Scholarship awardee is Justin Walker.

The School awarded CIS Scholarships to CIS majors for the upcoming 2008-2009 academic year. Awardees are Calvin Davis, Jordan Frizzell, Caleb Satterlee, Amanda Edwards, Keith Franklin, Jarod Malin, Ashley Smith, Frederick Washington, and Benjamin Faver.

The Outstanding Rookie of the Year is Justin Walker, with Presenter Dr. James Roiger.

The Outstanding Junior of the Year is Kenneth "KC" Gage, with presenter Dr. James Roiger.

The Outstanding Senior of the year is Michael Howard, with presenter Dr. James Roiger.

The Faculty Member of the Year, selected by CIS majors
and minors, is Ms. Angela Marsh, with presenter Ms. Lynn Harris.
CIS School Chair Dr. James Roiger served as Masters of Ceremonies for the awards presentation and was assisted in making the presentations by faculty members Ms. Lynn Harris, Ms. Angela Marsh, and Ms. Lori Selby. Dr. Jim Roiger and last year's winner, Ms. Lynn harris, presented the Faculty Member of the Year award.
A special thanks goes to Ms. Kathryn Jacobs, the School's Support Specialist, who worked very hard to make it all happen.
