UAM wins Arkansas Collegiate Programming Competition

The University of Arkansas at Monticello’s School of Computer Information Systems won the CIS competition at the 2008 Arkansas Collegiate Programming Competition, sponsored by Acxiom’s TresNet School.

The team of Vanneisha Bunn from Eudora, Freddie Gibson from Winchester, and Michael Howard from Linden, TX, coached by Professor Lori Selby, won first Place in the COBOL programming competition and first place overall in the Computer Information Systems section of the competition. The team set a new standard for COBOL programming by completing the first problem in 22 minutes.

Vanneisha and Michael are CIS majors and Freddie is a double major in CIS and SIS.

The competition was held at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, Arkansas, on March 14th. The competition is split into two sections, Computer Information Systems and Computer Science. Students competing in the CIS section may choose to program in COBOL, Java, or C++.
