The University of
Arkansas at
Monticello women’s
basketball team
connected on just
over 57 percent of
its shots in an
86-74 win over
Harding Saturday
afternoon in Gulf
South Conference
action.
The Blossoms (17-6,
9-3 GSC) already
clinched a spot in
the 2009 GSC
Championship
Tournament with the
win over Henderson
State on Thursday
and kept its second
place position in
the West division
intact with the win
over Harding (19-7,
5-7 GSC).
The team connected
on 31-of-54 shots,
including a 68
percent performance
in the first half of
17-of-25. The
Blossoms did
struggle from the
charity stripe
early, only making
4-of-11 attempts in
the first half, but
increased that
number in the second
half to even the
overall mark at 50
percent (18-of-36)
for the entire game.
UAM gained the lead
first and never
looked back,
extending its lead
to as much as 18
points with 15:28
left in the second
half.
The Blossoms also
handled the
rebounding battle
with ease with a
final 36-28 margin.
Individually, senior
Andrea Dubose led
the way with 22
points after hitting
7-of-15 field goal
attempts, including
five three-pointers.
Dubose also racked
up eight rebounds,
two assists, two
steals and one
blocked shot.
Freshman Taylor
Clark and junior
Nicole Lowe were the
team’s next highest
scorers with 12
points each. Clark
was a perfect 6-of-6
from the field and
also racked up three
assists, two blocked
shots and one steal.
Junior Monica
Perkins-Miller
recorded her ninth
double-double of the
season with 11
points and 10
rebounds, She also
tallied four assists
in the win. Freshman
Jerica Hubard was
the other Blossom to
reach double-digits,
also scoring 11
points.
Harding was led
Stacey Owens’
game-high 24 points.
Leah Fugett tallied
14 and Makala McNair
scored 10 to round
out the
double-digits
scorers for the Lady
Bisons.
The Blossoms
continue GSC play
this upcoming
Thursday, February
26 with a road
contest against
Arkansas Tech.
Tip-off is scheduled
for 6 p.m. at ATU’s
Tucker Coliseum in
Russellville. UAM
defeated Arkansas
Tech earlier this
season at home by a
final score of
84-61.
