MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team connected on just over 57 percent of its shots in an 86-74 win over Harding Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference action.

The Blossoms (17-6, 9-3 GSC) already clinched a spot in the 2009 GSC Championship Tournament with the win over Henderson State on Thursday and kept its second place position in the West division intact with the win over Harding (19-7, 5-7 GSC).

The team connected on 31-of-54 shots, including a 68 percent performance in the first half of 17-of-25. The Blossoms did struggle from the charity stripe early, only making 4-of-11 attempts in the first half, but increased that number in the second half to even the overall mark at 50 percent (18-of-36) for the entire game.

UAM gained the lead first and never looked back, extending its lead to as much as 18 points with 15:28 left in the second half.

The Blossoms also handled the rebounding battle with ease with a final 36-28 margin.

Individually, senior Andrea Dubose led the way with 22 points after hitting 7-of-15 field goal attempts, including five three-pointers. Dubose also racked up eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot.

Freshman Taylor Clark and junior Nicole Lowe were the team’s next highest scorers with 12 points each. Clark was a perfect 6-of-6 from the field and also racked up three assists, two blocked shots and one steal.

Junior Monica Perkins-Miller recorded her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds, She also tallied four assists in the win. Freshman Jerica Hubard was the other Blossom to reach double-digits, also scoring 11 points.

Harding was led Stacey Owens’ game-high 24 points. Leah Fugett tallied 14 and Makala McNair scored 10 to round out the double-digits scorers for the Lady Bisons.

The Blossoms continue GSC play this upcoming Thursday, February 26 with a road contest against Arkansas Tech. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at ATU’s Tucker Coliseum in Russellville. UAM defeated Arkansas Tech earlier this season at home by a final score of 84-61.
