SEARCY, Ark. –
The
University of Arkansas at Monticello
women’s basketball team picked up a
key conference win on the road, but
needed overtime in a 94-89 win over
Harding Saturday night.
Sophomore Bethaney Turner
(Mountain View, Ark.) recorded a
season-high with her game-high 25
points in the win, just her second
double-digit performance of the
season.
“Bethaney really stepped up big
tonight,” said UAM head coach Chris
Ratcliff. “We had injury problems
before the game and as the game
progressed, we had foul trouble with
our guards, but you wouldn’t have
known it with the way she
performed.”
Turner
finished the game with five three
pointers on only seven attempts.
Overall, she connected on 9-of-13
shots from the field and 2-of-2 from
the charity stripe. She scored 15 of
her points in the first half.
As a
team, the Blossoms combined to shoot
46 percent for the game, while
Harding shot 29 percent.
Senior
Andrea Dubose (Hickory, Miss.) was
the team’s next highest scorer with
17 points, followed by sophomore
Erika Brown with 16, and senior
Addie Lees (Plainview, Texas) with
11.
Freshman Jerica Hubard (Ashdown,
Ark.) and junior Monica
Perkins-Miller (Houston, Texas) both
pulled down 10 rebounds, and both
scored nine points.
“This
was a big win for our team on the
road,” said Ratcliff. “Harding is
the toughest environment in our
conference to play in… It’s always
loud and there are always a lot of
people. Our team really responded
well to the crowd and stayed focused
throughout the game… Hats off to
Harding, they really fought hard all
game long.”
The
Blossoms improve to 12-4 overall and
4-1 in the GSC, while the Lady
Bisons drop to 13-4 and 1-4 in the
GSC.
UAM
continues GSC play Thursday, January
29 at home against Arkansas Tech.
Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. from
Steelman Fieldhouse.
Fans
can catch the game on the radio in
southeast Arkansas at KHBM-FM, 93.7.
