MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello women’s basketball team moved to 3-1 in Gulf South Conference play with an 82-51 win over Henderson State at home Thursday evening.

Junior Nicole Lowe (Jackson, Miss.) scored a game-high 14 points, and only needed one half to do it. Lowe shot 6-of-7 from the field in the first half and nailed her only two three-point attempts.

The Blossoms took the lead first with a three-pointer from senior Andrea Dubose (Hickory, Miss.) followed by a 9-2 scoring run to give UAM a quick nine-point lead just three minutes into the contest.

The Blossoms grew its lead to as much as 18 points on two different occasions in the first half, but the team took its largest lead of the half into the locker room at the break thanks a jumper from Lowe with five ticks on the clock. UAM held a 44-22 advantage at the break.

UAM extended that lead to 25 points in the first three minutes of the second period with help from a three-pointer by Dubose and a put-back by freshman Jerica Hubard (Ashdown, Ark.).

Later in the half, Dubose put the Blossoms on top by 26 points with a three-pointer with 8:15 remaining to give UAM a 63-37 lead.

UAM was able to reach the 30-point margin thanks to sophomore Bethaney Turner (Mountain View, Ark.) drawing a foul with 12 seconds remaining. Turner followed with a pair of free-throws to give UAM its final advantage of 82-51.

Dubose and sophomore Erika Brown (Shreveport, La.) were the team’s next highest scorers with 13 points each. Junior Monica Perkins-Miller (Houston, Texas) also reached double-digits and recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

HSU was led by the 10-point efforts of Jazmine Ellis and Trenia Barbee.

The Blossoms improve to 11-4 overall and 3-1 in GSC games, while the Lady Reddies drop to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in league games.

UAM continues GSC play with a road trip to Searcy this Saturday, January 24 for a 5:30 p.m. match up with Harding University.
