HONOLULU, Hawaii – The University of Arkansas at
Monticello women’s basketball team recorded its second
straight win to start the 2008-09 season, this time a
93-48 win over Chaminade.
UAM (2-0) forced 38
turnovers and recorded 28 steals as a team to keep the
ball in its own hands, leading to the lop-sided victory.
Individually, junior
Nicole Lowe (Jackson, Miss.) racked up nine steals,
just one away from tying the school record for steals in
a game. Lowe also led all scorers with 19 points, going
6-of-10 from the field, while sinking 7-of-9 foul shots.
For the second straight
night, UAM had at least four players reach double-digits
in scoring. In the win over Chaminade, four of Lowe’s
teammates racked up at least 10, including sophomore
Erika Brown (Shreveport, La.) and senior Sharlene
Murphy (Coldwater, Miss.) with 17, freshman
Taylor Clark (Searcy, Ark.) and senior Andrea
Dubose (Hickory, Miss.) with 13, and freshman
Jerica Hubard (Ashdown, Ark.) with 10, rounding out
the team’s double digit scorers.
For Brown, Hubard, Clark
and Lowe, this marks the second straight contest to
reach double-digits in scoring.
The Blossoms collectively
pulled down 51 rebounds, while Murphy, Clark and Brown
tied for the individual lead with eight.
Chaminade (0-3) was led by
Ayla Mull, who scored 12 points and grabbed four
rebounds. Mull was the primary culprit of Chaminade’s
turnovers, committing 13.
The team returns to the
mainland for the remainder of its schedule. The next
stop is Lake Charles, La. to play McNeese State in
exhibition play this Saturday, November 22. The Blossoms
then host the 2nd Annual Dr. Mary Jane Gilbert Classic
in Monticello the following weekend (November 28-29).
