Arkansas
Tech by a
final score
of 71-66 in
Gulf South
Conference
action.
With the
loss, the
Blossoms
(17-7, 9-4
GSC) falls
to third
place in the
GSC-West,
while the
Golden Suns
(19-7, 9-4
GSC) take
sole
possession
of second
place in the
division and
will hold
that spot
barring an
upset on
Saturday
against
Christian
Brothers.
ATU
outscored
UAM by one
in the
second half
to send the
game to an
extra
period,
where the
Suns
outscored
the Blossoms
15-10 to
record the
win.
The Blossoms
held a lead
of as much
as nine
points with
14:43 left
in
regulation.
Tech
answered by
holding UAM
scoreless
for more
than three
minutes to
regain a
lead, which
it grew to
as much as
six points
with 6:10
left in the
game.
UAM shot 36
percent from
the field,
while Tech
hovered
around the
50 percent
mark for the
entire
contest,
finishing
the game at
53 percent
after making
24-of-45
shots.
Individually
for UAM,
senior
Andrea
Dubose led
all scorers
with 23
points after
shooting
6-of-16 from
the field,
including
5-of-13 from
three-point
range.
Junior
Bethaney
Turner also
reached
double-digits
in the loss
with 10
points. Tech
held UAM’s
leading
scorer,
junior
Monica
Perkins-Miller,
to only two
points in
the contest.
Perkins-Miller
only shot
six times.
ATU was led
by Amanda
Grappe’s
double-double
of 17 points
and 13
rebounds.
Rachel
Brazell also
reached
double-digits
with 13
points,
followed by
Taise Da
Silva and
Nikki Earles
with 11
points each.
UAM wraps up
its regular
season
schedule
with a GSC
contest
against
Southern
Arkansas at
home on
Saturday,
February 28.
Tip-off is
scheduled
for 2 p.m.
The game
marks the
last home
contest for
UAM’s four
seniors –
Addie Lees,
Tasha Owens,
Andrea
Dubose and
Sharlene
Murphy. A
special
presentation
in their
honor will
occur
shortly
after the
conclusion
of the game.
