February 4, 2009

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
Junior
Monica Perkins-Miller has been named
the Gulf South Conference West
Division Player of the Week after
aiding the University of Arkansas at
Monticello to pair of GSC victories
over the past week.
Perkins-Miller (Houston, Texas)
began her player of the week
campaign with a 17-point, 15-rebound
performance in an historic 81-64
upset of No. 20 Arkansas Tech in
Monticello. It was the first
regular-season win over a ranked
opponent in head coach Chris
Ratcliff’s tenure at UAM.
In that game, Perkins-Miller
connected on 4-of-12 shots from the
field, but mainly did her damage
from the free-throw stripe, where
she sunk 9-of-11 attempts.
Two days later, Perkins-Miller
recorded her career-high of 27
points in an 87-66 win over Southern
Arkansas on the road. She almost did
not miss, connecting on 12-of-15
shots from the field, while hitting
all three of her free-throw
attempts. She also grabbed nine
rebounds in the win.
Perkins-Miller is the third Blossom
to be named GSC-West Player of the
Week. Junior teammate Bethaney
Turner earned the award last week,
while junior Nicole Lowe won the
accolades on November 25, 2008.
The Blossoms are now 15-4 overall
and 6-1 in GSC games.
