Senior
Andrea
Dubose and
junior
Monica
Perkins-Miller
have been
selected to
the 2009
All-Gulf
South
Conference
Women’s
Basketball
First Team,
released
Monday by
the league
office.
Dubose earns
her second
consecutive
GSC
post-season
honor after
being named
to the
second team
a year ago,
while
Perkins-Miller
earns her
first honor.
The pair
battled for
the majority
of the
second half
of the
season to
determine
the team’s
leading
scorer.
Dubose won
the regular
season by
less than a
point,
averaging
13.7 points
to
Perkins-Miller’s
13.2 points.
Dubose ended
the season
with 101
steals,
averaging
out to
exactly four
per game,
ranking
first in the
GSC and
fourth in
the entire
nation.
Perkins-Miller
ended the
season with
10
double-doubles
and an
average of
10.2
rebounds per
game.
“(Dubose)
has worked
really hard,
so this is a
great way
for her to
end her
senior
season,”
said head
coach Chris
Ratcliff.
“She was a
great leader
for our team
and that is
going to be
extremely
hard to
replace.”
“In only 18
games this
season,
(Perkins-Miller)
has been a
remarkable
player,”
commented
Ratcliff.
“She is a
force in so
many areas.
She can
score, she
can rebound,
she can
defend and
she is a
team
player.”
Arkansas
Tech’s
Amanda
Grappe
joined the
first team
and was
voted the
GSC-West
Player of
the Year.
Delta
State’s
Sarita
Cooper and
Harding’s
Stacey Owens
also earned
spots on the
first team.
Delta
State’s
Veronica
Walker was
voted the
GSC-West
Freshman of
the Year,
while also
earning
second team
accolades,
while her
head coach
Sandra
Rushing
earned her
fourth
consecutive
selection as
the GSC-West
Coach of the
Year.
