February 11, 2009
Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM Sports Information

MONTICELLO – Sophomore center Erika Brown has been named the Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week after her outstanding performance in her team’s 81-72 win over Christian Brothers last Thursday.

With Brown earning this week’s honor, a UAM player has been given the award three consecutive weeks. Junior Bethaney Turner earned the award two weeks ago, and junior Monica Perkins-Miller earned the honor last week.

Brown (Shreveport, La.) turned in her career-high of 33 points in the win over Christian Brothers, also marking the single-highest point total for a player during head coach Chris Ratcliff’s tenure at the helm of the program, dating prior to the beginning of the 2006-07 season.

She connected on 14-of-20 field goal attempts, including 2-of-2 from three-point range and 3-of-4 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed 12 rebounds, marking her third double-double of the season (second straight).

Brown increased her scoring average to 12.9 points per game this season, while also upping her shooting to 53 percent. Also, she is averaging 7.2 rebounds per game.
