MONTICELLO –
Sophomore center Erika Brown
has been named the Gulf
South Conference West
Division Player of the Week
after her outstanding
performance in her team’s
81-72 win over Christian
Brothers last Thursday.
With Brown earning this
week’s honor, a UAM player
has been given the award
three consecutive weeks.
Junior Bethaney Turner
earned the award two weeks
ago, and junior Monica
Perkins-Miller earned the
honor last week.
Brown (Shreveport, La.)
turned in her career-high of
33 points in the win over
Christian Brothers, also
marking the single-highest
point total for a player
during head coach Chris
Ratcliff’s tenure at the
helm of the program, dating
prior to the beginning of
the 2006-07 season.
She connected on 14-of-20
field goal attempts,
including 2-of-2 from
three-point range and 3-of-4
from the charity stripe. She
also grabbed 12 rebounds,
marking her third
double-double of the season
(second straight).
Brown increased her scoring
average to 12.9 points per
game this season, while also
upping her shooting to 53
percent. Also, she is
averaging 7.2 rebounds per
game.
