MONTICELLO – True freshman
Erika Brown has been named the Gulf South Conference
West Division Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the
final week of the regular season.
Brown (Shreveport, La.) led the Blossoms to a 1-1
split over the past week with an overtime loss at home to
Christian Brothers and a win at Southern Arkansas to clinch
the No. 4 seed from the GSC West.
“Erika has been one of the most consistent players for us
all season,” UAM head women’s basketball coach Chris
Ratcliff said. “She has battled all season long in both
scoring and rebounding for us. There are a lot of great
players in this conference who put up big numbers, and for
her to be given this award really makes a great ending to
the regular season.”
Brown scored 25 points in the loss to Christian Brothers,
setting her career high, which was previously 20 points,
scored in the overtime win at Henderson State. Also in the
CBU game, Brown grabbed nine rebounds.
Two days later, Brown helped the Blossoms defeat SAU with 10
points and eight rebounds.
Brown and the Blossoms open up GSC Tournament play
Wednesday, March 5 at 12:30 p.m. at the DeSoto Civic Center
in Southaven, Miss. against Alabama-Huntsville, who finished
the season as the No. 5 seed from the GSC East.
