Blossoms Pick Up GSC Road Win Over CBU 57-53

MEMPHIS, Tennessee – With help from a late three-point shooting surge, the University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossom basketball team secured its third Gulf South Conference victory of the season with a final score of 57-53 over Christian Brothers in the Canale Arena.

 

The Lady Bucs made more three-pointers in the contest with 10 made, seven of which came in the second half, but the Blossoms were more efficient at close to half of its three’s falling with 7-of-15 three-point attempts falling.

 

Junior Andrea Dubose (Hickory, Miss.) hit all four of her three-point attempts in the second half to aid the Blossoms to leads of nine and eight in the second half. Dubose was the game’s high scorer with a final total of 20 points.

 

Senior Gemma Gibson (Dodd City, Texas) only hit one field goal in the game, which was a three-pointer, but finished with seven points after sinking all four of her free throw attempts. Freshman Janette Thompson (Hot Springs, Ark.) also hit one three-pointer, and senior Shakia Sanders (Chester S.C.) was responsible for UAM’s other three-pointer.

 

          Freshman Erika Brown (Shreveport, La.) finished the game second best after turning in 13 points, while being one rebound shy of finishing with a double-double. Four of Brown’s nine rebounds were on the offensive end of the court.

 

        The Blossoms combined the shoot 78 percent from the free throw line, while the Lady Bucs only shot 38 percent.

 

        With the win, the Blossoms move back above .500, with an overall record of 10-9 and 3-2 in GSC play, while the Lady Bucs drop to 15-4 overall and 3-3 in conference action.

 

        The Blossoms host Southern Arkansas on Saturday, Feb. 2 in the Steelman Fieldhouse in the last action of the first round of conference play. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
