MAGNOLIA,
Ark. –
The
University of Arkansas at Monticello
softball team won three of four games
against Southern Arkansas this weekend
with an 8-0 win and a 7-6 loss on
Saturday, followed by 14-4 and 6-4 wins
on Sunday.
The wins improve UAM to 22-3 overall and
3-1 in GSC games this season, while SAU
drops to 4-19 overall and 3-5 in the GSC.
In Sunday’s wins, the Blossoms combined
to record 35 hits, including a 20-hit
performance in the team’s 14-4 game-one
win.
In that game, junior Lindsey Randall
recorded the best game of her career,
going 5-for-6 from the plate with four
RBI and two runs scored. She had three
run-producing at-bats in the game,
including her fourth homerun of the
season, a solo shot to left field in the
top of the fifth inning.
The second game needed four extra frames
to decide a winner, finally ending in
freshman Randa Perry’s RBI-single in the
top of the 11th inning, plating junior
Becca Tipton, who singled to left
earlier in the inning. The Blossoms held
their lead in the bottom half of the
frame to record the win.
Tipton was the star of the second game,
also posting a 5-of-6 day from the plate
with a pair of runs scored and two RBI.
Her two RBI came from a homerun to
center field in the top of the sixth
frame, scoring freshman Kayla Jackson,
who singled to center just one batter
earlier. Jackson went 4-for-5 at the
plate with two runs scored.
Jackson (14-1) also earned both wins in
the double-header sweep, posting a
complete game effort of seven innings in
the first game, with only four runs
allowed off eight hits, while only
giving up one walk. In the second game,
she picked up the victory after a
one-hit performance in the final four
innings of the contest in relief.
On Saturday, Jackson recorded her 12th
win of the season after throwing her
sixth shutout of the year in
complete-game fashion. She only allowed
two hits in the game, and the Lady
Muleriders only reached scoring position
twice in six innings. She picked up her
first loss of the season in game two of
Saturday’s double-header after pitching
the final three innings in relief,
allowing the winning run to score in the
bottom of the seventh.
In Saturday’s 8-0 win, the Blossoms did
most of their damage with a six-run
second inning, highlighted by a pair of
two-RBI base hits. Randall struck first
with a double to left field, scoring
freshman Meagan Wilson and senior Amy
Mardis. Tipton followed two batters
later with single to right center field,
scoring Jackson and junior Emilie Hobbs.
The Blossoms step out of GSC play,
traveling to face Arkansas-Pine Bluff
this Tuesday, March 24 for a
double-header starting at 1 p.m. On
Wednesday, UAM is scheduled to host
Southern University for a double-header
starting at 1 p.m. at Blossoms Field.
