ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
The University of Arkansas at
Monticello softball team
completed its series with
Ouachita Baptist by splitting a
pair of games, falling in game
one 3-1 and winning game two
6-4.
With the split, UAM moves to
34-11 overall and 13-9 in the
Gulf South Conference, while OBU
moves to 22-27 overall and 10-16
in the GSC.
In the game two win, UAM plated
one run in the top of the first
and three in the second to give
UAM starting pitcher Becca
Sustaire a 4-0 lead through two
innings. Sustaire held the Lady
Tigers scoreless through the
first three innings, but
eventually allowed two runs to
score off a total of four hits,
one walk and one strikeout in
her three-inning no-decision.
Freshman Randa Perry (8-5)
earned the win after throwing
the fourth through the sixth
innings, allowing two runs off
five hits with two walks and one
strikeout. Freshman Kayla
Jackson picked up her first
career save, holding OBU
scoreless in the seventh off
three hits.
Senior Lindsey Randall was one
of four Blossoms to record two
hits in the game, going 2-for-4
with two RBI and one run scored,
highlighted by a two-RBI double
to left center field in the top
of the second inning.
Jackson went 2-for-3 with three
RBI and three run-producing at
bats in the game. She had an RBI
base hit in each of the first
and sixth innings, while
recording an RBI sacrifice fly
out in the second.
Junior Becca Tipton went 2-for-4
with a pair of singles, and
freshman Meagan Wilson rounded
out the Blossom two-hitters,
going 2-for-4 with a pair of
singles and a run scored.
OBU’s Crystal Robinson (2-6) was
charged with the loss after
tossing five and two thirds
innings, allowing five runs off
nine hits with three walks and
one strikeout.
In the first game, UAM plated
its lone run in the top of the
third inning with an RBI single
by Jackson, scoring junior
Emilie Hobbs, who reached on a
bunt single earlier in the
inning.
Hobbs led the team at the plate,
going 3-for-4, all singles in
the infield.
Jackson (21-6) was saddled with
the loss after tossing a
complete-game, allowing three
runs off five hits with zero
walks and three strikeouts.
OBU’s Sara Hanson (7-7) earned
the win after tossing a
complete-game, allowing one run
off nine hits with one walk and
nine strikeouts.
The Blossoms continue their
stretch of 12 games in six days
Wednesday with a 2 p.m. home
double header against Henderson
State at Blossoms Field in
Monticello.
