ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
The University of Arkansas at
Monticello softball team split a
pair of games with Ouachita
Baptist on the first day of the
two-day series, winning game one
6-2 and falling 3-2 in the
second game.
With the split, UAM moves to
33-10 overall and 12-8 in the
Gulf South Conference, while OBU
moves to 21-26 overall and 9-15
in the GSC.
In
the game-one win, UAM used a
four-run third inning,
highlighted by a two-RBI single
through the left side of the
infield by junior Emilie Hobbs.
Freshman Kayla Jackson and
junior Becca Tipton also had
run-producing at bats in the
inning.
UAM plated one run each in the
top of the fifth and sixth
frames, starting with junior
Becca Sustaire’s RBI single to
left in the fifth, finished with
Jackson’s RBI double in the
sixth.
Jackson (21-5) also picked up
the win on the mound after
tossing her 23rd
complete-game of the season,
going seven innings, allowing
two runs off four hits with two
walks and three strikeouts.
OBU’s Kristen Rigsbee (13-12)
was charged with the loss after
tossing a complete-game,
allowing six runs off 12 hits
with one walk and nine
strikeouts.
In
game two, UAM jumped out to a
quick 1-0 lead with freshman
Randa Perry’s RBI single through
the right side.
Perry, UAM’s starting pitcher,
then held the Lady Tigers
scoreless through the first four
innings, before OBU pushed two
across in the bottom of the
fifth.
UAM responded to tie the game at
2-all with an RBI single by
Lindsey Randall in the top of
the sixth, plating senior
pinch-runner Savanah Morin, who
was running for freshman Meagan
Wilson, who singled to center
earlier in the inning.
The Lady Tigers pushed across
the winning run in the bottom of
the seventh with two outs and
the bases loaded, with an RBI
single by Alexis Johns, scoring
Jana Deen, who led off the
inning with a single to center.
Perry (7-5) took the loss, going
six and two thirds innings,
allowing three runs off three
hits with three walks and three
strikeouts. OBU’s Krystal
Robinson (2-5) earned the win
after tossing a complete-game,
allowing two runs off six hits
with five walks and three
strikeouts.
The two squads conclude the
series with a Tuesday
double-header starting at 2 p.m.
at Sully Anderson Field in
Arkadelphia.
