MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at
Monticello softball team
recorded its third consecutive
split in as many days by beating
Henderson State 5-0 in game one,
followed by a 4-2 loss in game
two.
The split moves UAM to 35-12
overall and 14-10 in the Gulf
South Conference, while
Henderson State snaps its
19-game losing streak and moves
to 17-31 overall and 6-18 in the
GSC.
In the first game, most of UAM’s
production came in the bottom of
the fourth inning with senior
Lindsey Randall’s two-RBI double
down the left field line.
Freshman Meagan Wilson also
produced a run in the frame with
her RBI single to center.
The Blossoms also plated a
single run in each of the third
and sixth innings. Randall
completed her three-RBI game
with an RBI single to center in
the sixth, scoring senior
Heather Greer, who led off the
inning with a pinch-hit single
through the left side of the
infield.
Freshman Kayla Jackson recorded
the other RBI in the game with a
double to the left field gap in
the third, plating junior
Bethany Falcon, who reached on
an error earlier in the inning.
Jackson (22-6) also picked up
the win after tossing her 25th
complete game and ninth shutout
of the season, allowing only two
hits in seven innings with only
one walk and nine strikeouts.
HSU’s Melissa Decker (8-17) was
charged with the loss, after
allowing five runs off 10 hits
with no walks and only one
strikeout in her seven innings
of action.
In the second game, freshman
Randa Perry produced UAM’s only
runs with a game-tying two-run
homerun to left field in the
bottom of the fourth inning. It
was her fourth round-tripper of
the season.
Perry (8-6) also picked up the
loss after allowing four runs
off seven hits with three walks
and two strikeouts.
The Lady Reddies plated one run
in each of the first and fourth
innings, but their big blow came
in the top of the fifth, with
Breann Birdwell’s go-ahead
two-RBI single to center.
Patti Collins (9-14) earned the
win in complete-game fashion,
allowing two runs off four hits
with two walks and no
strikeouts.
The two squads conclude the
series tomorrow (Thursday) with
a 1:30 p.m. double header at
Blossoms Field in Monticello.
