BIRIMINGHAM, Ala. –
For the
second time this season, University of
Arkansas at Monticello senior shortstop
Lindsey Randall has been named Gulf
South Conference West Division Player of
the Week.
The following is a portion of the GSC
release:
Randall was on top of her game at the
plate, pounding out tons of hits as UAM
went 4-2 on the week. Randall had 12
hits and drove in seven runs in 27 at
bats. She slugged five doubles and got
on-base 46 percent of the time. In a
14-4 win over Southern Arkansas, she
went 5-for-6 with four RBI, a homerun
and two doubles.
“Lindsey had a fantastic week,
capped off by a great series at Southern
Arkansas,” said UAM coach Alvy Early.
“She continues to be a great leader for
our team, and I expect her to have a
great rest of the season.”
Randall’s five hits in the win over
Southern Arkansas tied UAM’s all-time
record for hits in a game. Randall had
to share the spotlight with that record
tying performance as junior teammate
Becca Tipton racked up five base hits in
the following game.
Overall this season, Randall is leading
the team with a .435 batting average.
She also leads the team in runs scored
(30), hits (40), doubles (13), homeruns
(4) and slugging percentage (.728).
Randall joins Arkansas Tech pitcher
Casey Hammons, who was crowned pitcher
of the week. For the GSC-East,
Alabama-Huntsville swept both honors,
with Beth Lawson named player of the
week and Sage Woodham named pitcher of
the week.
The Blossoms (22-3, 3-1 GSC) step out of
league play for the moment, hosting
Southern University tomorrow (Wednesday,
March 25) for a double-header at
Blossoms Field, starting at 1 p.m.
