The University of Arkansas at Monticello
softball team concluded its competition
in the 2009 Gulf South Conference
Crossover Tournament with a 10-2
run-rule victory over West Alabama on
Monday.
The Blossoms (27-6, 6-4 GSC) scored six
runs in the bottom of the fourth inning
to give the team enough runs for the
eight-run rule to take effect, forcing
the completion of the game after the
fifth inning.
In the inning, senior Lindsey Randall
recorded the first of what was three
two-RBI at bats in the inning with a
two-run homerun to center field,
followed later with a two-RBI single to
right field by junior Becca Tipton.
Freshman Randa Perry followed with a
two-RBI single to right of her own to
cap the scoring in the inning.
One inning earlier, freshman Kayla
Jackson picked a good time for her first
homerun of the season, blasting a
three-run shot over the left field fence
to gain the lead for UAM at 4-2.
Senior Becca Sustaire also homered in
the game, sending a solo shot over the
center field fence in the bottom of the
second inning to tie the contest at
1-all.
Jackson (18-3) also got the win,
allowing two runs off three hits and
striking out five in her 18th
complete-game of the season.
West Alabama’s Brittany McGee (12-2) was
saddled with the loss after allowing the
first four runs off five hits and
striking out two in her three innings of
work.
Prior to this game, UWA (35-8, 9-6 GSC)
was undefeated in the GSC Crossover.
The Blossoms return to regular GSC-West
competition with a four-game series in
Memphis, Tenn. against Christian
Brothers starting with a double-header
on Thursday, April 9 at 1 p.m.
