Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM Sports Information

DECATUR, Ala. –
Freshman Kayla Jackson allowed only three hits in a 3-1 win over North Alabama on the third day of the 2009 GSC Crossover Softball Tournament. The Blossoms fell 9-0 to No. 2 Alabama-Huntsville later in the day.

In the win over UNA (17-19, 3-10 GSC), senior Lindsey Randall did most of the offensive damage, going 3 for 4 at the plate and scored all three runs, including her sixth homerun of the season with a leadoff shot in the first inning.

In addition to only allowing three hits, Jackson (17-3) struck out four and walked four in route to her victory.

In the loss to Alabama-Huntsville (34-2, 13-1 GSC), the Blossoms were only able to muster three hits, including junior Emilie Hobbs’ double to left in the third inning and back-to-back singles by junior Becca Tipton and Jackson in the sixth inning.

UAH’s Caitlin Lee smashed a three-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning, giving the Lady Chargers enough runs for the eight-run rule victory.

Freshman Randa Perry (4-3) took the loss, allowing six runs off nine hits in her four and one third innings of work. UAH’s Sage Woodham (15-0) earned the win after recording a three-hit shutout and striking out eight UAM batters.

The Blossoms (26-6, 5-4 GSC) conclude play in the GSC Crossover with a 9 a.m. contest with West Alabama tomorrow (Monday) at Wilson-Morgan Park in Decatur.
