Freshman Kayla Jackson allowed only
three hits in a 3-1 win over North
Alabama on the third day of the 2009 GSC
Crossover Softball Tournament. The
Blossoms fell 9-0 to No. 2
Alabama-Huntsville later in the day.
In the win over UNA (17-19, 3-10 GSC),
senior Lindsey Randall did most of the
offensive damage, going 3 for 4 at the
plate and scored all three runs,
including her sixth homerun of the
season with a leadoff shot in the first
inning.
In addition to only allowing three hits,
Jackson (17-3) struck out four and
walked four in route to her victory.
In the loss to Alabama-Huntsville (34-2,
13-1 GSC), the Blossoms were only able
to muster three hits, including junior
Emilie Hobbs’ double to left in the
third inning and back-to-back singles by
junior Becca Tipton and Jackson in the
sixth inning.
UAH’s Caitlin Lee smashed a three-run
walk-off homerun in the bottom of the
sixth inning, giving the Lady Chargers
enough runs for the eight-run rule
victory.
Freshman Randa Perry (4-3) took the
loss, allowing six runs off nine hits in
her four and one third innings of work.
UAH’s Sage Woodham (15-0) earned the win
after recording a three-hit shutout and
striking out eight UAM batters.
The Blossoms (26-6, 5-4 GSC) conclude
play in the GSC Crossover with a 9 a.m.
contest with West Alabama tomorrow
(Monday) at Wilson-Morgan Park in
Decatur.
