ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The University of Arkansas
at Monticello softball team split a Gulf South Conference
double header with West Division leader Henderson State on
Sunday with the HSU taking the first game 5-0 and UAM
posting an 8-5 victory in the second game.
In the 8-5 win, the Blossoms used a four-run seventh inning
to take lead large enough to record the win with the help of
back-to-back two-RBI singles. The first came from the bat of
junior Lindsay Randall (Keithville, La.), followed by
senior Jenny Dunn (Adelaide, Australia).
Randall and Dunn both finished the game with a 2 for 4
performance with three RBI, while senior starting pitcher
Kate Brady (Longview, Texas) improved to 7-7 this season
with the win after pitching six and one third innings,
allowing five runs off eight hits. Junior Becca Sustaire
(Hallsville, Texas) recorded her first save of the
season after getting the last two outs of the ball game,
only giving up one hit.
In the 5-0 loss, the Blossoms were held scoreless for the
seventh time this season, while only recording four base
hits in the game.
Senior Gemma Gibson (Dodd City, Texas) was
responsible for half of those hits after going 2 for 3 at
the dish. Gibson went 1 for 4 in the second game to increase
her hitting streak to seven straight games.
Sustaire recorded the loss in the game, moving to 6-11,
after throwing six innings, allowing five runs off 10 hits.
With the split, the Blossoms move to 13-21 overall and 6-6
in the GSC, while the Lady Reddies move to 33-9 overall and
13-3 in the GSC.
UAM travels to Ouachita Baptist on Tuesday, Apr. 8 to make
up a GSC double header that was originally scheduled for
March 7, but was cancelled due to inclement weather.
