Blossoms Sweep On Final Day of Super
8 Tournament

MONTICELLO
– The University
of Arkansas at Monticello softball team swept its final two games of
the 2008 Super 8 Softball Classic with a 5-3 win over Missouri
University of Science and Technology, followed by a come-from-behind
5-3 win over North Alabama.
Senior Jenny Dunn (Adelaide,
Australia) picked a good time to record her first homerun of the
season with a three-run smash in the bottom of the fifth inning that
eventually led to the 6-3 win over North Alabama. Dunn went 2-for-3
in the game after going 0-for-4 in the win over Missouri S&T.
The Blossoms reached the scoreboard
first in the game with one run in the bottom of the first inning, a
solo-homerun from sophomore Becca Tipton (Dermott, Ark.), her
third blast of the season.
Senior Kate Brady (Longview,
Texas) recorded a complete game win after allowing only three runs
off three hits. Brady moves to 3-4 on the season.
In the first game of the day, UAM
took an early lead over Missouri S&T, with three runs in the bottom
of the first inning. The scoring started with an RBI-groundout by
Tipton, scoring senior Meredith Heckel (Hot Springs, Ark.),
who led off the inning with a single down the left field line.
Junior Lindsey Randall
(Keithville, La.) followed with an RBI-single up the middle that
scored senior Gemma Gibson (Dodd City, Texas), who singled to
left two batters earlier. The first inning scoring ended with an
RBI-single from senior Lauren Brooks (West Monroe, La.) that
scored Randall.
Randall was responsible for one
other run in the following inning with a single through the left
side that scored Gibson, who reached with a bunt-hit.
Junior Becca Sustaire
(Hallsville, Texas) recorded a complete game win only allowing three
runs off nine hits and walking none of the 30 batters she faced.
The Blossoms improve its overall
record to 6-14. The next action for UAM is scheduled for Tuesday,
Mar. 4, when the team opens Gulf South Conference play at home
against Ouachita Baptist. The place and time of the game is subject
to change due to the forecast and both school’s basketball teams
