MONTICELLO, Ark.
— University of Arkansas at Monticello head
softball coach Alvy Early has announced the addition
of two players to his recruiting class for the 2009 season.
Katie Bowman (Gentry, Ark.) and Haleigh Winnon
(Bastrop, La.) have both recently signed national letters of
intent to play for UAM, joining six others in this season’s
recruiting class.
Bowman joins the team after posting a .485 batting
average this past season, including 27 RBI in only 21 games.
She boasted a team-high .833 slugging percentage. Early has
signed Bowman to play infield for the Blossoms.
Winnon will join the program in the fall of 2008
after a successful high school career at Bastrop as a
pitcher and a first baseman.
Bowman and Winnon join Kayla Jackson (Hallsville, Texas),
Randa Perry (Collierville, Tenn.), Amanda Nordberg (San
Antonio, Texas), Meagan Wilson (Longview, Texas), Bethany
Falcon (Zwolle, La.), and Emilie Hobbs (Nacogdoches, Texas)
to join the UAM softball program for the 2009 season.
“I’m very excited and anxious to get these young ladies on
campus to get them prepared for next season,” Early said.
“We lost six seniors this season, which created quite a gap.
I believe these players can fill that gap and make an
immediate impact in our success in 2009.”
