MONTICELLO
–
For the
second time this season and the fourth
of his career, senior Raymond Wright has
been named the Gulf South Conference
West Division Player of the Week after
aiding the University of Arkansas at
Monticello men’s basketball team to a
pair of key conference wins over the
past week.
This past week, Wright (New York,
N.Y.) started his player of the week
campaign with a 24-point, seven rebounds
and five steal performance off the bench
in a 75-70 win on the road at Delta
State in GSC play.
Two days later, Wright notched his
fifth double-double of the season with a
game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds in a
58-49 win over pre-season favorite
Ouachita Baptist at home.
In the two games combined, Wright
connected on 20-of-37 field goal
attempts, made 11-of-16 foul shots and
even added a three-pointer to his
totals. He shot 54 percent from the
field and 69 percent from the charity
stripe.
Wright has been a consistent weapon for
the Boll Weevils this season, racking up
at least 10 points in all but one of the
15 games he has played.
In six of those games, he scored at
least 20 points, including his career
high of 32 points in a win over
Montevallo at home on January 3.
Wright and the No. 19 Weevils host
Henderson State tomorrow (Thursday) for
a GSC contest at 7:30 p.m. The team
travels to Searcy this Saturday for
another league game against Harding.
