MONTICELLO – Senior Raymond Wright
scored a career high 32 points to aid
the University of Arkansas at Monticello
men’s basketball team to a 71-62 win
over Montevallo on Saturday afternoon.
Wright (New York, N.Y.) recorded
his fourth double-double of this season
and 16th of his career with his 32
points and 13 rebounds. He shot 13-of-20
from the field, 4-of-6 from the foul
line and even added a pair of
three-pointers.
Also racking up a double-double in the
game was junior Derek Easter (El
Dorado, Ark.) who tallied 11 points and
grabbed 10 rebounds. Junior James
Early (Arlington, Ga.) reached
double-digits by tallying 10 points
after shooting 4-of-5 from the field and
2-of-5 from the foul line.
Montevallo stayed close for the majority
of the game, even having two leads, but
never more than one point. On the other
hand, the Weevils led by as much as 12
points, coming just after the start of
the second half.
The Weevils used a 5-0 scoring to end
the half, allowing UAM to take a
10-point lead of 37-27 into the locker
room at halftime. Montevallo did
outscore UAM by one point in the second
half, but the Weevils shot 51 percent
and scored 20 second chance points to
seal the victory.
UAM out-shot Montevallo by a final
margin of 52 percent to 37 percent. UAM
improved its first half three-point
shooting more than 100 percent in the
second half to finish with a team mark
of 32 percent from beyond the arc.
Montevallo was led by Brian Carlyle’s 13
points, followed by Terrill Humphrey
with 12 points and Freddy Little with 10
points.
UAM improves its record to 10-2 overall,
while Montevallo drops below .500 to
7-8. The Weevils play one more
non-conference game before beginning
their 14-game GSC schedule. The team
hosts Ecclessia College on Monday,
January 5 at 6 p.m. at Steelman
