The No. 5
University of Arkansas at Monticello
men’s basketball team was defeated 72-69
by Texas A&M-Commerce on the final day
of St. Edward’s Hilltopper Holiday
Classic, giving the Weevils its second
straight loss in as many days.
The
Weevils (9-2) increased their shooting
percentage from Monday’s loss to St.
Edward’s by almost 30 percent. In the
loss to TAMU-Commerce (6-5), UAM shot 49
percent from the field, which was almost
six points higher than the Lions. TAMU-Commerce
capitalized from UAM’s fouls to shoot
just over 76 percent from the foul line,
which was responsible for 29 of its
points.
Individually, senior Bernard Seymour
(Biloxi, Miss.) led the Weevils for
the second straight game, this time
sinking seven field goals and three
three-pointers for a team-high 18
points. Seymour also grabbed four
rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Senior
Raymond Wright (New York, N.Y.)
bounced back from his sub-par
performance in Monday’s loss to record a
double-double of 13 points and 11
rebounds in the loss to TAMU-Commerce.
Also
reaching double-digits was senior Don
Riley (Pine Bluff, Ark.), who scored
14 points after a 5-of-9 shooting
performance.
UAM’s next
contest comes after the turn of the
calendar year with a home non-conference
contest against Montevallo this
Saturday, January 3 at 2 p.m. from
Steelman Fieldhouse. The Weevils close
their non-conference portion of the
schedule on the following Monday with a
6 p.m. game against Ecclesia College at
home.
