AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 5 University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team was defeated 72-69 by Texas A&M-Commerce on the final day of St. Edward’s Hilltopper Holiday Classic, giving the Weevils its second straight loss in as many days.

The Weevils (9-2) increased their shooting percentage from Monday’s loss to St. Edward’s by almost 30 percent. In the loss to TAMU-Commerce (6-5), UAM shot 49 percent from the field, which was almost six points higher than the Lions. TAMU-Commerce capitalized from UAM’s fouls to shoot just over 76 percent from the foul line, which was responsible for 29 of its points.

Individually, senior Bernard Seymour (Biloxi, Miss.) led the Weevils for the second straight game, this time sinking seven field goals and three three-pointers for a team-high 18 points. Seymour also grabbed four rebounds, two steals and one assist.

Senior Raymond Wright (New York, N.Y.) bounced back from his sub-par performance in Monday’s loss to record a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds in the loss to TAMU-Commerce.

Also reaching double-digits was senior Don Riley (Pine Bluff, Ark.), who scored 14 points after a 5-of-9 shooting performance.

UAM’s next contest comes after the turn of the calendar year with a home non-conference contest against Montevallo this Saturday, January 3 at 2 p.m. from Steelman Fieldhouse. The Weevils close their non-conference portion of the schedule on the following Monday with a 6 p.m. game against Ecclesia College at home.
