WEEVILS SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON
December 29, 2008
Contact: Brian Ramsey, UAM Sports Information

AUSTIN, Texas –
The No. 5 University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, a 79-59 loss to St. Edwards University in the Hilltopper Holiday Classic.

St. Edwards jumped out to a 5-0 lead within the first two minutes and never looked back. The Hilltoppers (6-4) used 55 percent field goal shooting to extend its lead to as much a 26 points with just over eight minutes left in regulation. The Boll Weevils (9-1) had difficulties countering the SEU attack, combining to shoot just over 36 percent from the field as a team.

Senior Bernard Seymour (Biloxi, Miss.) led UAM individually with 17 points, mostly from the free-throw stripe, where he sunk 11-of-13 attempts. He added three field goals. Seymour was the only Weevil to reach double-digits. Senior Duke Sturdivant (York, Ala.) and sophomore D’Angelo Dean (Cincinnati, Ohio) were the team’s next highest scorers with nine points each.

The Weevils continue play in the Hilltopper Holiday Classic tomorrow (Tuesday) with a 3:30 p.m. contest against Texas A&M-Commerce.
