MONTICELLO – The
University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball
team recorded its third straight win with a 110-47
victory over Philander Smith at home.
The Weevils (3-0) combined
for 10 three-pointers, led by senior Deron Brown
(Paris, Ky.) with five. Brown led all scorers, while
recording his second straight 20-point game with 21
points, going 8-of-13 from the field.
Senior Raymond Wright
(New York, N.Y.) followed closely with 20 points,
keeping his team scoring lead intact. Through three
games this season, Wright is averaging 18.7 points per
game. Wright even added a three-pointer to his totals,
only his second career trey.
Four other Weevils
finished in double-digits. Senior Don Riley (Pine
Bluff, Ark.) tallied 14, senior Bernard Seymour
(Biloxi, Miss.) and sophomore Marius Williams
(Belleville, Mich.) both scored 11, while junior
Lorenzo Shine (Detroit, Mich.) rounded out the
double-digit scorers with 10.
UAM again dominated the
paint, outscoring the Panthers 36-18, while also winning
the points off turnover battle 30-4. The Weevils scored
a significant amount of points from their bench players
with a final total of 46 points to only 16 points for
the Panthers in the category.
After the holiday, the
Weevils play in the Delta State Classic this weekend in
Cleveland, Miss. UAM opens with perennial power Virginia
Union on Friday, November 28 at 5 p.m. The team
concludes play in the classic against in-region opponent
Nova Southeastern on Saturday at 6 p.m.
