ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
The
University of Arkansas at Monticello
men’s basketball team suffered its
fourth straight loss with a 64-54
setback to Ouachita Baptist on Saturday
evening in GSC play.
The Weevils (16-7, 5-5 GSC) were held to
only 16 first half points, making a
comeback difficult. UAM did outscore OBU
(13-10, 3-7 GSC) 38-32 in the second
half, but the first half deficit proved
to be too much, resulting in the loss.
UAM was led by 14 points from senior
Deron Brown (Paris, Ky.). Brown nailed
6-of-14 field goal attempts, including
2-of-6 from three-point range. Senior
Bernard Seymour (Biloxi, Miss.) and
sophomore D’Angelo Dean (Cincinnati,
Ohio) also reached double-digits in the
loss, scoring 11 and 10 points,
respectively.
OBU was paced by a game-high 17 points
from Daniel Maddox. Teammate Rowan
Ledbetter also reached double-digits
with 10 points.
Both teams ended the game with a
21-of-49 performance from the field. One
of the key factors to OBU’s win was
points from the foul line. OBU nailed
16-of-27 attempts from the charity
stripe, while UAM only attempted 10
shots, making four.
The Weevils continue GSC play on the
road this Thursday, February 19 with
another trip to Arkadelphia to face
Henderson State. Tip-off is scheduled
for 8 p.m.
