MONTICELLO – The
University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball
team opened its 2008-09 home portion of the schedule
with a 109-61 win over Crowley’s Ridge College.
Six Weevils finished the
game in double-digits, led by senior Deron Brown
(Paris, Ky.) with 25. Brown hit 10-of-19 field goals,
including a 3-of-9 game from beyond the arc.
Also reaching
double-digits was junior Derek Easter (El Dorado,
Ark.) with 17, senior Bernard Seymour (Biloxi,
Miss.) and senior Raymond Wright (New York, N.Y.)
with 13, sophomore Marius Williams (Belleville,
Mich.) with 12, and senior Antwain Cosey (Flint,
Mich.) with 11.
The Weevils (2-0) out-shot
the Pioneers (3-3) 49 percent to 37 percent, while also
connecting on 16-of-19 attempts from the charity stripe.
In addition to Easter’s 17
points was a game-high nine rebounds.
Out of the 11 UAM players
that saw action in the game, only one did not record a
point. The Weevils have now posted at least 100 points
in both of their games this season.
The Weevils stay in
Monticello for its next game – a November 25 showdown
against Philander Smith. That game is scheduled to
tip-off at 6 p.m. from Steelman Fieldhouse.
