MEMPHIS,
Tenn. –
The
University of Arkansas at Monticello
men’s basketball team lost its second
straight game with a 51-43 loss to No.
10 Christian Brothers on the road in
Gulf South Conference action.
Senior Bernard Seymour (Biloxi, Miss.)
led the Weevils with 16 points after
connecting on 6-of-8 field goal
attempts. Senior Raymond Wright (New
York, N.Y.) also reached double-digits
with 12 points. Wright also grabbed nine
rebounds, just one shy of recording a
double-double.
UAM (16-5, 5-3 GSC) jumped out to a 4-0
lead just two minutes into the contest,
but that’s the biggest lead the Weevils
held in the contest. CBU (16-5, 5-3 GSC)
responded by taking an 11-point lead
with eight minutes remaining in the
half. The Weevils fought back to create
only a four-point deficit at the
halftime break.
In the second half, UAM was about to
take the lead on four different
occasions, but never enough to gain a
significant advantage.
CBU hit 8-of-20 three-pointers in the
game, and seemed to make all of them
when it either trailed or needed the
points to create a sizeable margin.
Both teams shot poorly in the contest.
UAM shot 36 percent from the field
(16-of-45), while CBU hit shots at a 37
percent mark (18-of-49).
CBU was led by Reggie Peyton with 16
points. Nick Kohs also reached
double-digits with 13 points.
The Weevils continue GSC play next
Thursday, February 12 with a home
contest against Delta State. Tip-off is
set for 7:30 at Steelman Fieldhouse in
Monticello.
