INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –
The
University of Arkansas at Monticello
men’s basketball team remains at No. 5
in this week’s release of the NCAA South
Regional Rankings.
The Weevils entered the rankings at No.
5 last week, just one spot behind
Christian Brothers. This week is no
different. CBU sits at No. 4 with a 13-2
record against NCAA Division II teams as
well as against in-region teams. The
Weevils follow with an 11-4 Division II
record and a 10-4 record against
in-region teams. The two teams square
off tomorrow (February 5) in Memphis,
Tenn. at 7 p.m. CBU ranks 10th
nationally, while UAM is ranked 22nd.
The game marks the second straight week
UAM has faced off against a team that is
both nationally and regionally ranked.
Also in this week’s rankings, Benedict
(15-2 D2, 15-2 In-Region) claimed the
top spot, moving in front of Claflin
(15-2 D2, 15-2 In-Region), which now
sits at No. 2. Florida Southern (18-3
D2, 15-2 In-Region) claimed the No. 3
spot, followed by Christian Brothers and
UAM.
Rollins (12-5 D2, 11-4 In-Region) ranks
sixth, Lynn (14-6 D2, 10-6 In-Region)
ranks seventh, Valdosta State (14-4 D2,
14-4 In-Region) ranks eighth, North
Alabama (10-6 D2, 9-5 In-Region) and
Delta State (11-5 D2, 11-4 In-Region)
rounds out the rankings at No. 10.
At the end of the season, the top eight
teams advance to the NCAA Regional
Tournament, usually hosted by either the
No. 1 or No. 2 seed of each respective
region.
