NEW
ORLEANS – Scott Buisson, a
sophomore quarterback at the
University of Arkansas at
Monticello and a product of
Archbishop Rummel High School,
has been selected as the
Allstate Sugar Bowl Greater New
Orleans Athlete of the Month for
September, the organization
announced on Tuesday.
Buisson led the Boll Weevils to
a No. 23 ranking in the nation’s
Division II ranks while earning
conference player of the week
honors twice in September. The
5-10, 175-pounder rushed 84
times for 637 yards (7.6 yards
per carry) and five touchdowns
while also completing 93-of-140
pass attempts for over 1,000
yards and 14 touchdowns.
His most impressive performance
came in a 51-48 victory over
Henderson State when he rushed
for 223 yards and two touchdowns
while throwing for 424 yards and
five scores. He is the first
player in NCAA history to
surpass 400 yards passing and
200 yards rushing in the same
game. He also tied a Division II
record by completing 20 straight
passes in the win.
That performance earned Buisson
mention in Sports Illustrated,
as well as D-II National Player
of the Week honors.
Buisson is coached by New
Orleans native Gwaine Mathews,
who played football at Brother
Martin and was the head coach at
De La Salle.
Each of the monthly award
winners will be honored in the
spring at the Greater New
Orleans Sports Hall of Fame
Induction and Awards Ceremony,
hosted by the Allstate Sugar
Bowl and the Greater New Orleans
Sports Selection Committee.
