BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After an 0-37 finish in 2008, the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team has been picked to finish last in the Gulf South Conference West Division in 2009, announced in the GSC Pre-Season Release on Tuesday.

The pre-season poll was voted on by the league's head coaches. Delta State was picked as the favorite, followed by Southern Arkansas, Ouachita Baptist, Harding, Arkansas Tech, Henderson State, Christian Brothers and UAM.

UAM received one fifth place vote, one sixth place vote and five seventh place vote to earn 10 points, just one point behind seventh-place pick Christian Brothers.

The 2009 season marks the first full season for head coach Carlos James. James was given interim head coaching duties halfway through the 2008 season, but "interim" was lifted from his title in May of 2008.

The Weevils begin their season next Tuesday, February 3 in Fort Worth, Texas for a double-header against Texas Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
