BASEBALL PICKED TO FINISH LAST IN THE GSC-WEST

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
After an 0-37 finish in 2008, the
University of Arkansas at Monticello
baseball team has been picked to
finish last in the Gulf South
Conference West Division in 2009,
announced in the GSC Pre-Season
Release on Tuesday.
The pre-season poll was voted on by
the league's head coaches. Delta
State was picked as the favorite,
followed by Southern Arkansas,
Ouachita Baptist, Harding, Arkansas
Tech, Henderson State, Christian
Brothers and UAM.
UAM received one fifth place vote,
one sixth place vote and five
seventh place vote to earn 10
points, just one point behind
seventh-place pick Christian
Brothers.
The 2009 season marks the first full
season for head coach Carlos
James. James was given interim
head coaching duties halfway through
the 2008 season, but "interim" was
lifted from his title in May of
2008.
The Weevils begin their season next
Tuesday, February 3 in Fort Worth,
Texas for a double-header against
Texas Wesleyan. First pitch is
scheduled for 1 p.m.
